FAQ

  • When is the 2020 Honolulu Ekiden?
  • Sunday, May 17, 2020.
    Opening Ceremony starts at 4:30 AM.
    Marathon starts at 5:00 AM.
    Ekiden Team Relay Race starts at 5:30 AM.

  • How can I sign up for the 2020 Honolulu Ekiden?
  • ENTER ONLINE: Go to Online Registration Site

    LATE REGISTRATION: Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Kapiolani Park Bandstand from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

  • What does it cost to enter?
  • Please visit our Registration Fee page as prices vary depending on when you register.

  • If I change my mind about running the race, can I get a refund?
  • Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

  • Is there an age limit?
  • Ekiden relay runners must be 10 years old or older on race day. Participants under the age of 18 must provide a signed parent/guardian consent form. Marathon runners must be 18 years old or older on the day of the race.

  • Is there a qualifying time for the Honolulu Ekiden?
  • The Honolulu Ekiden does not require a qualifying time.

  • Is there a time limit?
  • Yes, due to road use permits, all runners must follow a strict time frame. Failure to not complete legs within these times may result in team disqualification.
    The cut off time to complete legs 1, 2, and 3 is 3 hours, thus all teams must start leg 4 (Sandy Beach) by 8:30 AM. Course closes at 11:30 AM.
  • What if a registered team member cannot participate on race day?
  • The runner cannot be replaced. The remaining registered team members who are able to participate must run the race.

  • How do I receive my race packet?
  • Race Packets for all Marathon Runners and Ekiden Team Runners must be picked up at Kapiolani Park Bandstand on May 16, 2020 between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

    Ekiden Teams: Any team member may pick up the packet for their team. That person will be responsible for the team sash, team bibs, and team T-shirts. We provide packets by team.

    Packets WILL NOT be distributed on race day.

  • Is there transportation to the relay stations?
  • Yes, all runners who assemble at Kapiolani Park for Opening Ceremony festivities starting at 4:30AM will be provided with shuttle services starting at 5:00AM. Bus shuttle schedule departing from Kapiolani Park will be posted near the stage and on our website under “RACE INFO” or www.ekiden-hawaii.com on race day. After completion of legs, shuttle services will be provided from each relay station back to Kapiolani Park.

  • Is there any way to find out about traffic?
  • Yes, we will establish a traffic advisory hotline on race day.

  • Is there parking at each station?
  • Parking will not be provided.

  • Will there be showers and toilets provided?
  • No showers, but each station will have water, toilets and a medical staff standing by.

  • What is the weather like on Race Day?
  • Temperature in Honolulu at the start of the race may range from 74° F (23° C) and climb to 88° F (31° C) or higher by 10:00 AM. Be prepared for rainy conditions along the course. Stay hydrated at all times.

  • Can I walk the course?
  • All participants are encouraged to run the race. Timing deadlines for each station will be strictly enforced.

  • Can I use my earphones/headphones?
  • Participants are discouraged from using audio or music playing devices.

  • Can my friend run with me?
  • No, those not officially entered and not wearing a race number are discouraged from being on the course.

  • Can my dog run with me?
  • Sorry, no pets allowed, including but not limited to dogs and horses.

  • Can I ride a bicycle on the course?
  • No bicycles will be permitted on course unless; the bicycle is a certified course attendant for a wheelchair participant.

  • Can I skate the course?
  • No, all participants must run without assistance. NO assistance conveyances and unauthorized vehicles including bicycles, baby carriages, all forms of skates, support walkers, walking sticks, poles and canes, etc. will be allowed on the course on race day.

  • Can I carry food and water?
  • Yes, but there will be ten relay/aid stations located along the course serving water, snacks, and providing professional medical assistance, if needed.

  • Can I run back to Kapiolani Park after I finish my segment?
  • No, participants are required not to interfere with active participants on that segment.

  • How can I track a runner or find individual results?
  • Times for all runners will be updated and recorded at the starting line but can also be accessed on race day at www.ekiden-hawaii.com.

  • When does the finish line close?
  • The cut off time is 11:30 AM.

  • Is there an awards ceremony?
  • Yes, the Awards Ceremony will be held at Kapiolani Bandstand from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. All qualifying teams must be present to receive awards. Awards will not be mailed.

  • Is there award money?
  • A wide range of awards will be awarded to the fastest team in each category/division. Awards will be handed out at the Awards Ceremony on race day. One award per team. Awards will not be mailed and must be claimed on race day.

  • When do I get a T-shirt?
  • The Honolulu Ekiden & Music T-shirt will be passed out at the Packet Pick-Up venue.
